Winston Salem Engagement

Engagements

I had so much fun with Mattie & Steven on their Winston Salem Engagement shoot this past weekend. I also fell in love with the city of Winston Salem, North Carolina. There was so many cool places to shoot around the downtown area and surrounding. As I do with all of my engagement shoots, I ask my couples what are the places that mean the most to them as a couple, and make sure we incorporate them into our shoot. To start this Winston Salem Engagement shoot, we headed off to Wake Forest University where the couple first met.

Once we get on campus, Steven & Mattie took me on a tour. I had never been to Wake Forest University before and I found the campus breathe-taking. There were so many cool spots to shoot. I’m glad this was one of the stops on our Winston Salem Engagement shoot. For these pictures I tried to incorporate all of the buildings and structures that the couple loved the most. It was mid day sun, so you’ll notice I broke out my flash equipment to help combat the light. I also snagged some natural light images, using the harsh light to my advantage.

Our next stop on this Winston Salem engagement shoot was a place the couple loved to hang out at the most, Fratellis Italian Steakhouse. The first thing you notice about this place is the gigantic bull on the outside, so we had to get a picture of that. We then went inside to get some images of them having some cocktails. The inside was very elegant. I placed them at the bar where there was a nice reflection. Because the inside was fairly dark, I had to break out my lighting equipment again.

After our restaurant trip, we went downtown Winston Salem. The downtown area was really cool. There was a lot of old industrial architecture to play around with, as well as some water elements. Once we were done there, we finished off our Winston Salem engagement shoot in Old Salem. This is one of the most beautiful spots around town and has a beautiful old world feel to it. Here we shot natural light, as well as flash. Hanging out with Mattie & Steven was a blast and I can’t wait to shoot their wedding.

This concludes the post from my Winston Salem engagement shoot. The equipment I used for this shoot were my Godox flashes, my MAGMOD modifiers, and my Sony a9’s.
