Annah & Seth, Coley Hall at The Liberty

Engagements

This engagement shoot with Annah & Seth was my first time shooting at Coley Hall at The Liberty, but it won’t be my last time! I fell in love with this awesome venue which is located in downtown Elkin North Carolina. If you want to learn more about them and their prices, click here. I was treated so amazingly by the staff, and as you’ll see, you can’t beat the architecture inside or outside of this place. The downtown area of Elkin was gorgeous as well.

We started the shoot indoors to take in a lot of the beautiful red brick walls. Also the sun was a little harsh so I always love to wait it out until the light gets a bit softer, if I have the choice of course. This venue also had a cool wall with strings of led lights, so not only did I get a shot of them in front of the lights, I chose to also have them get in the lights for some cool shots.

After we did some playful shots with their first outfit, they got fancy in their second outfit and we got our dance on. I think it’s important to always bring a bluetooth portable speaker with you on shoots. I bring one every time. Playing music your couples like helps them to get loose and let their guards down a bit as they nod to the beat and sing a bit. It also helps get some awesome dancing shots like we did here. Dancing combined with the beautiful brick walls and wooden floors at Coley Hall at The Liberty made for awesome shots.

You will also notice that they had awesome ceiling lights. Blurred out in the background made for great Bokeh. I chose to shot from a low stand point at the couple so that I could capture all the lights.

After we got some inside shots, we went outside to shoot at the ceremony location at Coley Hall at The Liberty. I could see how this space could look amazing for weddings. I had some fun getting them to laugh. Laughing shots are fantastic because it helps show off their personalities. One of my favorite shots outside was with them in the ceremony space and I’m a good distance away shooting through the doors. I lit the couple with a MAGMOD Box to make them pop from the scene.

Lastly we came to the train tracks outside of Coley Hall at The Liberty. Here I did some fun natural light shots but also utilized some flash as well. I love the shot of them centered on the tracks with the car behind them. FYI these tracks are no longer in use so it was safe for us to shoot.

I want to mention that most of the pictures from this shoot were shot with the new Tamron 35 1.4. This lens performed amazingly and is now my new favorite wide angle lens.
